The Facts

Warts vary in color and shapes: They are usually round, irregular and firm. Warts commonly grow on the hands and feet near the nails. They also grow on your face and will sprout up in response to recurring abrasions or injuries.

Warts are contagious: All warts are viral infections and they can spread quickly. However, most people are resistant to warts. Children are more susceptible than adults. Warts often disappear in one to two years ... but sometimes (in order to make their final exit) they need our help (hence this page on warts).

Types of Warts

Facial Warts & Finger Warts: Finger warts usually sprout up near the nails. Facial and finger warts develop in response to recurring injuries or abrasions.

Plantar Warts: Grow in the sole of the foot and are very common. Plantar warts resemble calluses but are tender to the touch. Can be quite painful, and when irritated can bleed from tiny "pin-hole" pores.

Filiform Warts: Grow in tiny 'filaments'. These thin narrow warts often grow on the neck, face, on or around lips, and on eyelids.

Flat Warts: The most common warts among young adults and children, especially girls. Flat warts can grow in many small bumps over areas of the face. They sprout up after an inflammation of the skin, and usually disappear on their own ... but sometimes they need our help.

Genital Warts: Genital warts are sexually transmitted. They are more contagious than those described above. They sprout up in various shapes and forms on the genitals or anal areas.

Genital Warts and Cancer: Although most warts are harmless, genital warts are linked to an increased risk of cervical cancer.

External Therapies

Apply Vitamin A and E: Open capsules and apply contents directly onto the wart only, not on surrounding areas.
